Fiberglass Mesh Buying Guide 2026

Key Parameters to Consider Before Purchase
Choosing the right fiberglass mesh is crucial for ensuring construction quality and reducing later maintenance costs. In 2026, with the increasing variety of fiberglass mesh products on the market, many buyers and contractors are confused about how to select products that meet their needs. This article sorts out the 6 key parameters that must be considered before purchasing fiberglass mesh, helping you avoid buying inferior products and select cost-effective options that match your project.
1. Weight per Square Meter (GSM): GSM is the core parameter reflecting the thickness and strength of fiberglass mesh. Common specifications include 80g/m², 120g/m², 160g/m², 200g/m², and 300g/m². For internal wall anti-crack and small-scale repairs, 80-120g/m² is sufficient; for external wall insulation and cement product reinforcement, 160-200g/m² is recommended; for high-load scenarios such as industrial flooring and bridge reinforcement, 200g/m² or more is required.

2. Mesh Size: Mesh size refers to the distance between adjacent warp and weft yarns, usually expressed as “mesh/inch” or “mm×mm”. Common sizes are 4×4mm, 5×5mm, 6×6mm, and 8×8mm. Smaller mesh size (4×4mm, 5×5mm) has better anti-crack effect and is suitable for wall insulation and joint repair; larger mesh size (6×6mm, 8×8mm) has stronger air permeability and is suitable for stone backing and waterproofing projects.

3. Tensile Strength: Tensile strength (warp and weft directions) directly determines the reinforcement effect of fiberglass mesh. For alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh, the warp tensile strength should not be less than 1200N/5cm, and the weft tensile strength should not be less than 1000N/5cm; for regular fiberglass mesh, the tensile strength is generally 500-800N/5cm, which is only suitable for non-alkaline and low-load scenarios.

4. Alkali Resistance: Alkali resistance is a key parameter for fiberglass mesh used in alkaline environments such as cement and mortar. The alkali-resistant strength retention rate (after soaking in 4% sodium hydroxide solution for 24 hours) should be ≥75% for qualified alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh. For projects such as wall insulation and cement reinforcement, do not choose products with low alkali resistance to avoid premature aging and damage.

5. Coating Quality: The coating of fiberglass mesh is divided into common polymer coating and special alkali-resistant coating. Qualified coating should be uniform, free of peeling, bubbling, and uneven thickness. Alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh needs to be coated with special alkali-resistant emulsion and undergo high-temperature heat setting, which can effectively improve alkali resistance and service life.

6. Weaving Density: Weaving density refers to the number of warp and weft yarns per unit length, which affects the flatness and strength of the mesh. High weaving density means uniform mesh, no missing yarns, and no holes, which can ensure the stability of the reinforcement effect. When purchasing, check whether the mesh is uniform and whether there are defects such as loose yarns and broken wires.

Purchase Tips: Do not only pursue low prices; prioritize products with clear parameter labels and test reports. For key construction projects, it is recommended to sample and test the parameters to ensure they meet national standards. At the same time, choose regular manufacturers to avoid buying counterfeit and shoddy products.
